ACEs and Its Effects on Development
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Its Effects on Development ACEs are traumatic events occurring before age 18 and include all types of abuse and neglect as well as parental mental illness, substance use, divorce, incarceration, and domestic violence. The more ACEs experienced, the greater the risk for negative outcomes. Research has shown that children with ACEs struggle more with learning and participating at school, with language development, communication, attendance, and excelling academically.
