“Building Trauma Informed Schools and Communities” 13th Annual Cynthia Mummery-Lockhart Conference

The Tulare County Child Abuse Prevention Council is pleased to announce that the 13th Annual Cynthia Lockhart-Mummery Conference will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Visalia Convention Center. Each year over 300 professionals attend – with backgrounds ranging from social service, law enforcement, healthcare, mental health, education and the community-at-large.

This year’s conference topic is “Trauma Informed Communities.” The event will feature Jim Sporleder, a retired High School Principal from Walla Walla, WA. Under Jim’s leadership, Lincoln High School became a “Trauma Informed” school, gaining national attention due to a dramatic drop in out of school suspensions, increased graduation rates and the number of students going on to post-secondary education.

Participants will be introduced to information focused on the role that trauma plays in the school environment. This professional development experience will explore multiple strategies for education staff, professionals, and community members to utilize when working with students and their clients. Participants will reflect on the importance of self-care and the need for the professionals to have tools and strategies to support their own health.

Please join us for this amazing event as we continue to work towards making our schools and communities a safe and nurturing place where our children can thrive.
