Cynthia Mummery-Lockhart Conference

Every year, CAPC holds a conference focused on are particular area of child abuse, presented by experts in the content area. The conferences are open to to anyone who wants to get a more in-depth education on the topic, as well a tools to respond.


The conference is named after Cynthia Lockhart Mummery, LMFT, a long time clinical director at Tulare Youth Service Bureau and CAPC member who was an advocate for abused and neglected children for 18 years. Cynthia was the heart of the Tulare Youth Bureau until her death in 2002. A member of the Tulare County Child Abuse Prevention Council, she was instrumental  in bringing quality child sexual abuse treatment to Tulare County in the 1980s.

Keynote speaker Carol Redding spoke about adverse childhood experiences, the ACE study, and her own experiences. Other speakers included Galen Stewart of The Lisa Project, Alma Borjas of Family Services of Tulare County, Guillard Swissegood, professor at COS, and Tulare County Deputy Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.
